The position of Goalkeeper has been a thorn in Leeds United’s side in recent times, but they currently have two International players vying for that position. Still though, it seems there is no steadfast solution for the Whites fans.
Leeds moved to bring in Kiko Casilla from Real Madrid in January, making the stopper one of, if not the top earner at Elland Road, so fans were excited at the prospect of having a well known keeper with bags of pedigree at the club. But the two time Champions League winner struggled in his first tastes of English football, making a fatal mistake in the play-off semi-final against Derby County and at the same time losing the confidence of the fans.
The West Yorkshire club relied on a man from the youth ranks of the club for the first half of last season, with Bailey Peacock-Farrell showing signs of being a real talent, but with little mistakes here and there the fans had started to lose faith. Now though, some fans would rather BPF be given another chance between the sticks as rumours surround the club trying to source a deal to move on Casilla and free up wages money.
However, with recent reports linking the Northern Ireland International (22) with a move to Burnley, fans have started to wonder.
Leeds played two friendly matches yesterday, with a loss to Manchester United in Perth and a fixture against Tadcaster Albion set for the evening, fans were wandering what squad would be starting in North Yorkshire… but there was no sign of BPF in and amongst the squad.
Leeds opted to select an unknown trialist in goal from the start and Peacock-Farrell didn’t even make the bench, prompting questions aplenty from the supporters as the Burnley rumours persist.
So could Leeds end up with no senior goalkeepers at all at the start of the season?
If they are to lose one of the two, who would the fans prefer to see leave?
