Cardiff City defender set for £3 million switch to French top flight side

Cardiff City defender Bruno Ecuele Manga is in talks with Guingamp over a £3 million move.

The 31-year-old is set to return to the French Ligue 1, according to a report by WalesOnline.

Manga, who is Gabon international with 67 caps to his name, has left the Bluebirds’ pre-season camp in America to conclude the transfer.

He has been with the Welsh side since 2014 and has spent five seasons with them, playing 157 times and chipping in with seven goals.

Cardiff paid €5 million to lure Manga to the Championship from French top flight side Lorient in 2014 and he has gone onto establish himself as a key player for them. He played a huge role in their promotion to the Premier League in 2018, but couldn’t prevent an immediate relegation back to the second tier last season.

Manga started his career in Gabon with FC 105 Libreville before he was snapped up by Bordeaux in 2006. He played for their B team regularly but only managed one appearance for their first team and was loaned out to Rodez before leaving on a permanent deal to join Angers in 2008.

The 6ft 1inc centre-back spent two years in Ligue 2 for Angers and was signed by Lorient in 2010 for around €2.5 million. He then played 129 times for them prior to his move to Cardiff.

He has been a great servant to the Bluebirds and has been a popular figure amongst their fans as he looks set to return to France.
