Bristol City are eyeing up the signing of Sheffield Wednesday striker Lucas Joao according to the Bristol Post.
City are looking to bolster their forward line this summer transfer window and have identified the Portuguese as being a quality addition to add much needed goals to their team.
There are reports that Joao has already handed in a transfer request with the Sheffield based club amid claims he wants to move away from Hillsborough.
Bristol City are one of a number of Championship clubs who are believed to have lodged an interest in the striker. Joao hit 10 goals in 31 Championship appearances last season and despite his contract extension last summer, the speculation regarding his future is intensifying.
He is contracted to Wednesday until 2021 but several clubs in the second tier of English Football are monitoring him and a figure of around £8million may be enough to tempt the Yorkshire club into selling him.
Joao’s strike rate whilst at Sheffield Wednesday hasn’t been extraordinary and it will be a surprise should a club come in with an offer to which he is valued at.
Lee Johnson is looking to add striking options to his team this summer and Joao could fit the bill should the price be right.
The 25-year-old is believed to be open to more regular first team opportunities with the majority of his appearances last season coming from the bench as he played a less prominent role than he would have liked.
However, with the managerial situation at Sheffield Wednesday currently up in the air following the departure of Steve Bruce, it may take some time for Joao’s future to be resolved.
