According to a report from Egyptian newspaper Albilad (as cited by England-based Egyptian sports news side KingFut), Al Ahli are interested in bringing West Brom centre-back Ahmed Hegazi in this summer, and the interested has reportedly turned the head of the 28-year-old.
West Brom defender Ahmed Hegazi is reportedly interested in making a return to his home country of Egypt, with Al Ahli said to be interested in bringing the centre-back in this summer.
Hegazi has been attracting the attention of Premier League new boys Aston Villa this summer, but links have failed to develop into anything serious and Villa have moved on to other targets. However, the Baggies look set to face further interest in the towering centre-back.
Al Ahli are said interested in Hegazi this summer, who will apparently cost around €4 million to tempt away from the Hawthorns this summer. While the price tag seems low in the English market, the Egyptian side were apparently not expecting Hegazi’s valuation to be as steep.
Hegazi started his career in his home country fo Egypt with Ismaily SC, playing 35 times for the club before making a move away to join Italian Serie A outfit Fiorentina in the summer of 2012. However, his time with the Italian side was brief, playing four times before heading out on loan to Perugia where he played 10 times.
In 2015, Hegazi returned to Egypt with Ahly, joining on a free transfer from Fiorentina. The 28-year-old enjoyed a successful two-year stint with the club before joining West Brom on an initial loan deal, which was then made permanent in January 2018. Hegazi has made 85 times for West Brom since joining, but he could make a return to Egypt this summer with Al Ahli ready to offer him a route home.
