Sheffield Wednesday striker hands in transfer request amid rejected Championship transfer offers

The Sun (as cited by the Sheffield Star) has claimed that striker Lucas Joao has handed in a transfer request at Championship side Sheffield Wednesday as he believes he is being priced out of a move away from Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday have “overvalued” striker Lucas Joao out of a move away from the club this summer, leaving the Wednesday man with no choice but to hand in a transfer request at Hillsborough, according to claims from The Sun.

It has been reported that a “source” close to Joao has revealed the Portuguese striker wants to make a move away from the club this summer, but Wednesday’s valuation is pricing him out of a move away. The “source” said:

He wants to move on to a new challenge. He is disappointed the club have not allowed him to talk to other teams and if there is no solution soon he will be putting in a transfer request.

“Joao believes he is being overvalued out of a move.”

It is added that offers from two Championship sides to try and bring Joao in ahead of the new season have been rejected by the club, who are currently preoccupied by the ongoing saga surrounding Steve Bruce’s future and a possible move to Newcastle United.
Joao has been with Sheffield Wednesday since 2015 when he joined from Portuguese side Nacional. Since then, the 25-year-old has gone on to play 126 times, netting 26 goals and laying on 13 assists along the way. He also spent a brief stint on loan with Blackburn Rovers, where he scored three goals in 13 games.
