In a change of tact, especially in the case of Swansea City, the Championship club is scanning the lower leagues in order to unearth hidden gems this summer. Birmingham City join them in a chase for Kidderminster Harriers star.
Ed Williams is a 23-year-old midfield play maker for the National League North side and has been attracting attention from the leagues above for a couple of weeks now, with Peterborough United also reportedly taking a shine to the former Gloucester City man.
Since joining Kidderminster last summer, Williams scored thirteen goals and provided nine assists in his thirty six appearances last season and even has previous England caps, earning the caps for England C.
Peterborough chairman Darragh McAnthony was quick to deny the reports that the player was wanted by The Posh, taking to Twitter to reply to a supporter who was questioning the validity of reports, stating that the Peterborough name is often used when agents and clubs were trying to get bids in for players.
In the case of Swansea City, there has been no such no denials, with their Manager Steve Cooper stating that the club are actively seeking new blood before the new season kicks off…
“We are trying to do some things and I’m pretty sure we will before the start of the season.
“Obviously as the coach, you want it sooner rather than later. But I trust the work that we’re doing and when we do get some players over the line and in the training ground you guys will be the first to know.
“We’ve got such a good spirit with the current group, and you’ve got to be careful not to spoil that.
“On the flip side, for us there’s some obvious areas where we feel we can strengthen and add to what we’ve already got. There is no exact number (of signings).”
Good news for Swans fans, but with Birmingham City also circling the player, it would appear that it is a head to head scrap for the midfielders signature.
