Reading are showing an interest in young Chelsea midfielder Ethan Ampadu according to the Chronicle.
The starlet is widely regarded as one of finest young midfielders in the country and Reading are now looking at taking him on loan for the season.
Ampadu was left out of Chelsea’s pre-season squad for their tour of Japan and their new boss Frank Lampard has reiterated his desire for the teenager to go out on loan and gain some valuable first team experience.
Lampard told the MailOnline: “Ethan is not here as we’re looking at the possibility of him going on loan for the season.”
“I tried to sign Ethan on loan at Derby last year, so I’m a big fan, but with the minutes he played last year, I have to think of the bigger picture and the interests of Ethan and of Chelsea.”
“The idea that he could play a lot of games somewhere is good for him and we haven’t brought him here while that is up in the air.”
The Welshman only made a handful of first team appearances last season under previous boss Maurizio Sarri and didn’t star at all in the Premier League.
The Royals are keen on a move for the 18-year-old as they bid to boost their squad ahead of their upcoming Championship campaign.
Ampadu can play in defence as well as in midfield and it is thought that Reading face a battle for his signature as Aston Villa have also registered their interest in him.
