“Relax” – Middlesbrough manager gives transfer update with three weeks to go

With just over three weeks of the transfer window remaining, Middlesbrough have only made one signing, but Head Coach Jonathan Woodgate is keen for more new recruits.

Goalkeeper Tomas Mejias returned to Middlesbrough following his release from Cypriot First Division side Omonia Nicosia, but he is the club’s only arrival so far this summer.

Woodgate spoke out about needing more pace in the side, and their desperation for a new number 10, but the gaffer believes there is more than enough time to get new faces through the door.

“Everyone’s clamouring saying, ‘Oh, there’s three weeks to go’. There’s plenty of time (so) relax” he said in an interview which appears on Teesside Live.

“There’s no pressure to do something. We’ll get the players in when we need them. We’re not going to rush.

“If the player’s not right, I’m not one of those managers who would get them in anyway for the sake of it.

“I’m not going to be like that. I’m not going to waste the chairman’s money.”

In terms of outgoings, the Boro boss remained just as tight-lipped, stating “I’m sure there’ll be ins and outs in the next three weeks, that’s I can really say.”

Numerous players on Teesside have been linked with moves away in recent weeks, with the likes of Britt Assombalonga and Martin Braithwaite on the radar of several clubs. The former is interesting Scottish giants Celtic, whereas Braithwaite is still wanted by his previous loan club Leganes in Spain, although no bids have been tabled as of yet.
