Wigan Athletic are expected to complete the signing of Portsmouth winger Jamal Lowe this week.

The Latics are set to snap up the in-demand 24-year-old for a fee of around £3 million, according to a report by the Portsmouth News.

The Championship side have been busy of late trying to strike deals for potential signings. They have only brought in free agent goalkeeper David Marshall so far in this transfer window but are hoping to boost their options out wide by getting Lowe.

Lowe, who has been on the radar of various clubs in the second tier this summer, scored 17 goals in all competitions for Portsmouth last season to help Kenny Jackett’s side get into the League One Play-Offs.

He started his career at Barnet and made 15 appearances for the Bees altogether. He spent the majority of his early career out on loan in non-league with the likes of Hayes and Yeading United, Boreham Wood, Hitchin Town, St Albans City, Farnborough and Hemel Hempstead Town.

Lowe joined Hampton and Richmond Borough in 2015 and scored 33 goals in 54 games for the London side which earned him a move to the Football League with Pompey in October 2016.

His manager at Fratton Park was the now-Wigan boss Paul Cook and he helped his side win the League Two title in his first season at the club.

Lowe looks well equipped to make the step up to the Championship now and would be a decent coup by the North-West outfit.
