Leeds United set to offload utility man – Greece switch close after “extensive talks”

According to a report from Football Insider, Leeds United forgotten man Vurnon Anita is set to make a move away from the club next week, with a move to Greek side Panathinaikos reportedly closing in on completion.

We reported here on The72 earlier this month that Greek side Panathinaikos were interested in making a move for Leeds United man Vurnon Anita, and that the Whites were working on a compensation fee to release the utility man from his contract to allow him to leave on a free transfer.

And now, it has been reported by Football Insider that a deal is close, allowing him to make a permanent move to Greece as Marcelo Bielsa’s summer clearout continues. A number of young players and senior players have made moves away from Elland Road this summer, and Anita looks set to join the growing list.

Interest from his home country of The Netherlands was reported, but after “extensive talks” with Panathinaikos, Greece looks set to be Anita’s destination.

The Dutchman’s time at Leeds United won’t remain in the minds of Whites fans for long. One season in and out of the side in the 2017/18 campaign before being shipped out on loan upon the arrival of Bielsa is all there is of his time at the club. Should he make a likely move away this summer, he will bring an end to an uneventful time in Yorkshire.

The former Newcastle United man has played 22 times for the club and it looks highly unlikely that he will be adding to that total.
