Portsmouth boss admits ball in Wigan court after two failed Lowe bids

Earlier today it was a case of ‘now you see him, now you don’t’ after Portsmouth winger Jamal Lowe was pulled from a friendly with Havant & Waterlooville. First, he was on the teamsheet and announced, then he wasn’t.

In the above report from us here at The72, Portsmouth boss Kenny Jackett cleared up any lingering doubts as to Lowe’s magic illusion by saying that he’d given the prolific wideman the weekend off, what with the mounting interest in him from a gaggle of Sky Bet Championship clubs including big hitters such as Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion.

Alongside those two, interest is said to have been lodged by a further trio of sides namely Middlesbrough, Millwall and Wigan Athletic. It is, of course, perfectly acceptable to expect this level of interest in the League One stand-out winger given that he scored 17 goals and provided nine assists.

Now Wigan Today reporter Paul Kendrick adds further intrigue to the whole proceedings by saying in an article that extensively quotes Jackett that there have been extensive talks between the Latics and Pompey over Lowe. Jackett says that “there were extensive talks” and goes on to say that “as everybody is aware, the clubs have been talking.

A further twist comes with Jackett’s admission that there has been an official approach, well two, for Lowe that has been rebuffed by the south coast club. Commenting on this matter, Portsmouth boss Jackett says “There have been two bids for Jamal this week – and we have turned those bids down.”

Pompey value winger Lowe around the £3million bracket and are thought to be holding out for that level of fee from any club interested in bringing him aboard.
