Leeds United send mix of youth and experience to Australia – confirmed 16

Leeds United are set to extend their preseason arrangements to take in the other side of the world, literally. The next stage in their preparations sees the Whites head to Australia.

Whilst out there, the Whites will play two games against two different levels of opposition. One game will be against A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers, the other being against Premier League big boys, and bitter rivals, Manchester United.

In a world where football is universal, this is the first time in a long while that the Whites have stepped so far away from Elland Road. The usual preference has been to continental Europe, or to Ireland for ‘foreign’ opponents. However, Australia is a different kettle of fish and will represent a big step for the club.

It is a mini-tour that allegedly hasn’t gone down too well with Marcelo Bielsa, that is if anecdotal reports are to be considered seriously. Yet, it still goes ahead and with the following squad of just 16 players:

It is a classic mix of youth and experience as players such as Clarke Oduor, Bryce Hossanah and Mateusz Bogusz travel to play the aforesaid opponents alongside established players such as Pablo Hernandez, Kemar Roofe and club captain Liam Cooper.

Those not travelling to Australia, the touring party have already set off (below) and are on their way Down Under.

Those staying at home, who include Marcelo Bielsa among their number for the moment, will be undergoing additional fitness work at Thorp Arch with some reporting that ‘behind closed doors’ games may be organised.
