Former Derby County hotshot attracting interest from “several” Championship sides

A report from Football League World has claimed that Burnley striker Matej Vydra is attracting interest from a number of Championship sides.

Matej Vydra made a move away from Derby County last summer to join Premier League side Burnley in a reported £10 million deal. The striker’s move away from the Rams came after an impressive 22-goal campaign with Derby County over the course of the 2017/18 season.

However, since making the move to Turf Moor, things have not gone as planned for Vydra. The 27-year-old made 17 appearances across all competitions, with the vast majority of those coming off the bench for Sean Dyche’s side, Vydra scored two goals and laid on two assists in total and fell behind the likes of Sam Vokes and Ashley Barnes in the pecking order.

And, with new signing Jay Rodriguez through the door at Turf Moor, competition for a starting spot has been increased even more.

With the new season on the horizon, it has been claimed that several Championship clubs are interested in bringing Vydra in on loan ahead of the new season. No clubs have been named in the report from Football League World, but moves are being weighed up and interest is growing. Leeds United – who were keen to sign Vydra last summer – were linked with the Czech striker last month, but no links or reports have emerged since then.

After struggling to make an impact in the top flight, it might be best for Vydra to step back into the Championship where he is more likely to get more regular game time to help him get back in touch with his goalscoring nature that fired Derby County to the play-offs in 2017/18.
