Nottingham Forest confirm striker sale – four more senior players expected to follow

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the departure of striker Karim Ansarifard, who has left the City Ground after just one season to join Qatari side Al-Sailiya on a two-year contract.

Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi is kicking on with his plans for a summer clearout at his new club, with a number of senior players expected to make moves away from the club having been deemed surplus to requirements by the new boss.

One man who has now completed his move away from the club is striker Karim Ansarifard, having spent just one season with the club after joining last summer. He has joined Qatari outfit Al-Sailily after playing just 12 games for Forest across all competitions, scoring two goals and assisting twice.

And, it is expected that four more senior players are likely to follow the Iranian through the door. The Nottingham Post has reported that Michael Hefele, Daryl Murphy, Luke Steele and Liam Bridcutt have all been told to find new clubs by Nottingham Forest, with the new season around a month away.

Hefele only joined the club last summer but after just 16 appearances in a season brought to an end through an achilles injury, it is highly unlikely that he will be adding to that total with Lamouchi at the helm. Goalkeeper Luke Steele is another player who has been told to move away after just one season. Steele played a backup role to Costel Pantillimon and with Arijanet Muric now at the club, Steele is now the club’s third choice ‘keeper, making first-team opportunities hard to come by.

Daryl Murphy and Liam Bridcutt – who both joined in the summer of 2017 – are also likely to be leaving the club this summer with Lamouchi demanding they find a new club for next season. 36-year-old Murphy scored 13 goals since joining from Newcastle United. Bridcutt made the move to Forest from Leeds United and after making 28 appearances in his first season, he only played three times in 2018/19.
