Derby County confirm Everton midfielder signing to kickstart Cocu era

We reported here on The72 earlier today that Derby County were set to complete the loan signing of Everton midfielder Kieran Dowell, who was on the radar of fellow Championship sides Huddersfield Town and Wigan Athletic.

Now, it has been confirmed on the Derby County club website that midfielder Kieran Dowell has joined the club on a season-long loan deal, becoming the first signing of the Philip Cocu era at Pride Park.

Dowell was expected to make a loan move away from Everton again this season, having spent the last season-and-a-half on loan on the Championship with Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United. With Marco Silva keen to send the England youth international out where he would receive frequent game time, Championship sides Huddersfield and Wigan looked to pounce. But, it is the Rams who have come out on top.

Speaking to the club website upon the announcement, Philip Cocu has said he is looking forward to working with Dowell and is happy that he has opted to make the move to Derby County.

“I am very happy that Kieran Dowell has chosen to join us on loan for the season.

“He is an exciting young player with a lot of potential, and I am looking forward to working with him.”

With the deal being confirmed by the Rams, Dowell will now continue to prepare for the new season in Florida with his new team mates as Cocu looks to press on with making his mark on his Derby County squad with the start of the new season on the horizon.
