Leeds United talisman touted by former Premier League striker- for the second time.

Darren Bent has enjoyed a somewhat mixed start to being a pundit following his retirement from professional Football blast year, but there seems to be one man who he just can’t stop talking about from Leeds United.

It appears that the former Spurs and Derby striker is desperate to see Kalvin Phillips move on from Leeds United, causing a stir in media outlets twice in as many weeks regarding the holding midfield man.

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips (23) comes onto the pitch during the EFL Sky Bet Championship match between Derby County and Leeds United at the Pride Park, Derby, England on 11 August 2018.

Last week it appeared that Bent would love to see the Leeds man at his former club Tottenham Hotspur, making a big deal of the fact that Phillips had “earned his chance” at The Premier League…

Speaking to Football London, Bent was quoted as saying…

“I’d like to see Kalvin Phillips move on, he’s earned that Premier League status. He can go to Spurs, quite easily.

“That holding role, getting about the pitch and making tackles and that, I can see him at Tottenham easily.

“They’re crying out for that player, so I can see him going there and he might not start straight away, might have to bide his time, but I can guarantee you once he gets in there he won’t come out.”

Something I’m sure the Leeds United fans did not appreciate, especially as they eagerly await the outcome of a new contract offer that the young player has been offered.

But it seems Bent has changed his tune, he would now “love” to see Phillips in an Aston Villa shirt, telling Football Insider today the following…

“I’d love to see him at Villa, the perfect, ideal replacement for Glenn Whelan. He gets around the pitch, good on the ball, takes free kicks and honestly I couldn’t speak highly enough of him.

I watched him a lot last season and done quite a lot of games and every game he impressed me. I thought in the playoffs, second leg against Derby, he was probably the best player on the pitch.

He set up the first goal, put tackles in, and I saw at times even when he played centre half he didn’t look out of place as well, he was brilliant so for me, perfect signing. He’s going to cost them a fair bit though.

Are Leeds going to go and sell Jack Clarke and Kalvin Phillips, their two best youngsters? I’m not quite sure, but if I was Aston Villa I’d be doing everything I could to try and get him.”

So, is Darren Bent due some kind of commission should Leeds sell Kalvin Phillips, or is he merely having his say on where he believes the two Premier League clubs need to strengthen this summer?

Leeds fans won’t be happy.
