Nottingham Forest, West Brom and Wigan Athletic joined by Scottish giants in chase for ex-Aston Villa favourite

Football Insider has claimed that Scottish Premiership side Rangers could look to bring defender Alan Hutton back to the club after he left Aston Villa at the end of his contract.

Experienced defender Alan Hutton’s departure from Aston Villa was confirmed after their play-off final victory over Derby County, bringing an end to his time at Villa Park upon the expiry of his contract. A number of Championship sides have been keen to bring him in this summer to add some experience to their ranks ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Nottingham Forest, West Brom and Wigan Atheltic have all been credited with interest in Hutton, who is yet to find himself a new club for the upcoming season. And now, it looks like the Championship trio could be set for further competition if they want to bring Hutton in this summer.

Steven Gerrard is reportedly looking to bring Hutton to Ibrox on a bargain deal to add some experience to his defence. The 34-year-old started his career with Rangers, coming through the club’s youth academy and going on to play 88 games for the club before moving onto Spurs, in 2008, where he remained for three years.

Hutton spent eight years at Villa Park after joining from Spurs in 2011, spending time on loan at Nottingham Forest, RCD Mallorca and Bolton Wanderers during his time Aston Villa. During his time with Villa, Hutton played a total of 202 matches, providing eight assists and scoring three goals.

One of his two goals from the 2018/19 season will go down in the memories of Aston Villa fans for a long time to come. His mazy run followed by a tidy left-footed finish against fierce rivals Birmingham City went down a treat with the Villa faithful.
