If it continues at the pace that it is going, it is soon going to be a case of will the last defender to leave Leeds United please turn out the light at Elland Road.
Pontus Jansson is the biggest name to leave this window, but he was preceded by Aapo Halme, Liam Kitchen and Hugo Diaz. Earlier today we wrote about here on The72 that left-back Tyler Denton was also due to leave.
Writing for Football Insider, Pete O’Rourke confirms this to be the case and says that Denton’s destination is Stevenage. He says that the 23-year-old defender is due to sign “a one-year deal with the option of another 12 months at the League Two outfit as he looks to kick-start his career.”
There was some hope that Dewsbury-born Denton would be the latest to come through the much venerated youth system at Elland Road when he appeared in three FA Cup/EFL Cup games during the 2016/17 season.
However, that trio of appearances remain his only games for the Whites to date. He’s spent loans out of Elland Road at Port Vale (21 games/three assists) and Peterborough (14 games/two assists). A move to League Two Stevenage will give the youngster a chance to stake his claim for a regular place and begin to carve out his own niche in football.
In a way it is possibly the fairest resolution for all concerned that the Whites pay up the last year of his contract and, in doing so, allow him to join Stevenage.
