Brentford are in talks with Southampton over the possible transfer of Sam Gallagher according to TeamTalk.

The Bees are almost resigning themselves to losing star man Neal Maupay as Sheffield United and Aston Villa continue to monitor him and are now looking at Gallagher to replace him should he leave.

Gallagher is valued at around £5million and Brentford are keen to line up a replacement as a deal for Maupay in the region of £18million becomes increasingly likely.

23-year-old Gallagher is also attracting interest from Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic but Brentford are confident that they will be able to beat them to the signature of the Saints striker.

There is much speculation of Aston Villa pushing forward with their interest in Maupay who has been a wanted man this summer due to his impressive campaign in 2018/19 where he scored 25 goals in 43 league appearances.

Gallagher has failed to have a big impact with Premier League side Southampton despite breaking into the team as a teenager and it is thought that it be best for both parties for the striker to make a move for a fresh challenge in his career.

It was reported that both Blackburn and Wigan have made bids for Gallagher however nothing has yet been accepted and confirmed and Brentford are hoping to swoop in for the striker who they see to be an important signing should they be successful in their pursuit of him.

Brentford do face a battle however as Gallagher enjoyed a productive loan spell with Blackburn two seasons ago, as he fired in the goals to help the Lancashire club seal a return to the Championship.
