The 25 year old Dion Donohue has joined Mansfield Town on a free transfer from Portsmouth.
The ex Chesterfield player joined Portsmouth in 2017 but was not offered a new contract at the end of this season. The midfielder scored just one goal in his 14 appearances in the 2018/19 season for Portsmouth. Donohue has joined the stags on a two year contract and is their third signing of the summer, following the additions of Andy Cook from Walsall and Nick Maynard from Bury.
Throughout his career, Donohue has played a very good 225 games and scored 19 goals, a very good record for a 25 year old midfield player.
Before playing for Pompey, the midfielder played for Chesterfield Town. The player has also played as a left sided full back for Portsmouth and has played well for them. This addition is a good one for Mansfield as it gives them another option in defence or even going forward and playing Donohue as an attacking midfielder to support the strikers and potentially get some assists and increase their goals scored next season.
Overall, I think that the signing of Donohue for Mansfield is a good one for the stags. I think that he will really be able to help out Mansfield in improving their league position and mantaining a good status as a EFL club. They managed to get a play-off spot last season but couldn’t quite clinch the promotion they were hoping for to league one so maybe this signing of Dion Donohue may help them out this time around.
