Nottingham Forest leading West Brom in ex-Aston Villa winger chase – deal close to completion

A report from TEAMtalk has claimed that Nottingham Forest are closing in on a deal to sign free agent winger Albert Adomah, who is available on a free transfer after his release from Premier League side Aston Villa at the end of the season.

The departure of Martin O’Neill from Nottingham Forest has not halted their summer transfer business, with new manager Sabri Lamouchi moving to bring in midfielder Tiago Silva and Manchester City youngster Arijanet Muric. And, it has been claimed that the Championship club are closing in on a third impressive deal.

Albert Adomah is a free agent after his release from Aston Villa upon the expiry of his contract at the end of last season, and it looks like it will not be long before he has a new club. West Brom are “very keen” to bring him in, but it is Nottingham Forest who are in pole position to bring the winger in this summer, with a deal reportedly close to completion.

Forest have swooped in to try and bring him to the City Ground ahead of the 2019/20 Championship season and are hoping to tie up a deal soon.

Adomah has amassed plenty of Football League experience over the course of his career, playing 118 times for Barnet before making a move to Bristol City in 2010. During his time at Ashton Gate, the 31-year-old scored 17 goals and laid on 29 assists in 136 games, earning him a move to Middlesbrough, where he appeared in 143 matches, netting 26 goals and providing 19 assists.

After Boro’s promotion to the top flight, Adomah instead remained in the Championship, joining up with Aston Villa in 2016. In his three years at Villa Park, the Ghanaian played 122 times, scoring 22 and assisting 21, leaving the club this summer after their promotion to the top flight.

Now, he looks set to make a move to another Championship club and will be a valuable asset to Forest as Lamouchi looks to improve on last season’s 9th place finish.
