Portsmouth and Shrewsbury Town keen on Glasgow Rangers midfielder

Portsmouth and Shrewsbury Town are keen on signing Rangers midfielder Ross McCrorie on loan for next season.

Pompey are believed to be leading the race for him, according to a report by the Evening Times.

McCrorie, who is 21 years-old, will be allowed to leave Steven Gerrard’s side on loan this summer to gain some regular first-team football experience in the next campaign.

The former Scotland Under-20 international, who can also play in defence if needed, has been on the books at Rangers since he was a youngster having risen up through the youth ranks at Ibrox.

He made his first-team debut for the Glasgow giants in Scottish League Cup quarter final fixture against Partick Thistle in September 2017.

McCrorie has played 43 times for Rangers so far in his career, 19 of which came last season. He has also had loan spells away at Ayr United and Dumbarton in the past.

He may still have a future with Gerrard’s side but will be looking to impress out on loan in England.

Portsmouth will be going for promotion from League One next season under Kenny Jackett once again and McCrorie will offer them some depth in their squad if they can land him. Pompey have brought in James Bolton, Paul Downing, Sean Raggett, Ryan Williams and Ellis Harrison so far in this transfer window.

Shrewsbury Town have also been credited with an interest in McCrorie. They loaned Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty last season and want to use their links with them again.
