Oldham Athletic eyeing ambitious move for Nottingham Forest forward

Oldham Athletic are being linked with a move for Nottingham Forest forward Zach Clough.

The 24-year-old could leave Forest again this summer and is wanted by the League Two side, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

Clough, who is from Manchester, spent last season on loan in the third tier with Rochdale having fallen out-of-favour at the City Ground.

Oldham are now managed by Frenchman Laurent Banide who is keen to bolster his newly inherited squad this summer ahead of next season.

The Latics could make an ambitious move for Clough over the coming weeks but may have to face competition from clubs higher up the football pyramid.

Clough started his career at Bolton Wanderers and rose up through the youth ranks of the North-West side. He made his first-team debut for the Trotters in January 2015 in an FA Cup tie against Wigan Athletic aged 19 and scored the winning goal.

He went onto make 64 appearances for Bolton and scored 22 goals. Nottingham Forest snapped him up in January 2017 for a fee of over £3 million on a four-and-a-half year contract.

He has since played 24 times for the Reds, bagging four times. However, he returned to Bolton on loan during the second-half of the 2017/18 season and then spent the last campaign at Rochdale.

There is no doubt Clough is too good for League Two but a move to Oldham next season would enable him to play regular football and could help him get his career back on track.
