Portsmouth complete loan signing of former Lincoln City and Rotherham United defender

Portsmouth have confirmed on their club website that they have completed a deal to sign Norwich City defender Sean Raggett on loan for the 2019/20 League One season.

Portsmouth are in the market for a new star centre-back after defender Matt Clarke departed to join Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion. Now, it has been confirmed that Kenny Jackett has got his man, with Sean Raggett joining on a season-long loan deal from Norwich City.

Raggett has spent time on loan in the Football League at Rotherham United and Lincoln City and is seen as a highly-rated centre-back at League One level, so he will be a welcome arrival at Fratton Park as Kenny Jackett kicks on with strengthening his squad ahead of the new season.

Speaking to the club website, Jackett spoke of his joy at the arrival of Raggett, saying that he is looking forward to seeing the competition for a place int he starting eleven, with Raggett becoming the second centre-back arrival after Paul Downing.

“The additions of Sean and Paul Downing have strengthened our defensive options and give us good competition in that area. He’s played all of his career as a left-sided centre-half and is someone I’ve followed since his non-league days.

“We’re delighted to bring him to Pompey and very much look forward to working with him next season. He’s a very determined person and is just coming into his prime. He’ll be looking at this as a big opportunity to progress.”

In the 26-year-old’s deal which sees him make the move to Fratton Park, parent club Norwich City do not have the option to bring him back to the club early, which will come as a boost to Pompey.
