Burnley plotting move for West Brom defender- Watford also keen

Burnley and Watford are both trying to sign West Brom defender Craig Dawson.

The Hornets have had a bid rejected by the Baggies for the 29-year-old whilst the Clarets are believed to be lining up a swoop, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

Dawson wanted to leave the Baggies after their relegation to the Championship last year but stuck around last season to help the Midlands side get to the Play-Offs. However, after their failure to gain promotion, his time at the Hawthorns may be coming to an end.

Burnley have been long-term admirers of him and Sean Dyche’s side are likely to swoop for him again as they eye defensive reinforcements this summer.

Dawson has played for West Brom since 2010 and over 200 games for them in all competitions. The versatile defender, who can play as either a full-back or centre-back, is a former England Under-21 international.

He started his career in non-league with Radcliffe Borough before he was snapped up by Rochdale in 2009. After an impressive campaign with them in League Two, West Brom signed him in August 2010 but loaned him back out to Rochdale. Dawson scored a combined 22 goals from defence in his two seasons with the Dale.

He had a brief loan spell at Bolton Wanderers in 2013 but apart from that has been a key player for the Baggies.

Selling Dawson this summer could free up funds for Slaven Bilic to bring some of his own players in.
