Stoke City, Sheffield United and Derby County battling it out for Scotland international

Stoke City, Sheffield United and Derby County are battling it out to sign Kilmarnock defender Stephen O’Donnell.

The 27-year-old has impressed in the Scottish Premiership over the past two years and could be on the move down the border this summer, according to the Daily Mail (27.06.19, page 81).

Middlesbrough and Celtic have also both been credited with an interest in the in-demand right-back.

O’Donnell, who is a Scotland international with seven caps to his name so far in his career, has a year left on his contract at Killie.

Stoke have been the busiest club in the Championship in the transfer window and have brought in six new signings. The Potters are in the hunt for three more, as reported by The72, and O’Donnell could potentially be one of them.

Sheffield United want some reinforcements to their squad ahead of their upcoming Premier League season and could see O’Donnell as someone who would give them more options and depth in defence.

Championship duo Derby and Boro are both keen to bolster their defences ahead of the next campaign and are in the race for him.

O’Donnell started out with spells as a youngster at Aberdeen and Celtic before joining Partick Thistle in 2011. He became a key player for them and made 139 appearances.

He moved to England in 2015 for two years in League Two with Luton Town before moving back up to Scotland with Kilmarnock. Could he be on his way back down now?
