Leeds United rebuff approach from Premier League side for £30 million-rated star

Football Insider has claimed that Premier League side Aston Villa have had an approach for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips turned down by the Championship club.

It has been widely reported over the past few weeks that Leeds United’s key midfielder Kalvin Phillips is attracting significant interest from a number of Premier League clubs amid the Whites’ failure to win promotion to the top flight.

Aston Villa – who have a big transfer kitty to strengthen their squad with ahead of the new season – have been heavily linked with a move for Phillips this summer, and with Leeds slapping a hefty £30 million asking price on the head of the Whites favourite, it seemed their interest would dwindle.

However, it has now been claimed by Football Insider that the Villans have made an approach for the 23-year-old midfielder, which has been unsurprisingly knocked back by Leeds United. It also says the club are planning a bid “well in excess of £10 million” for the Whites academy graduate, but even then they will be short of the club’s valuation.

Phillips was one of Leeds’ best performers last season and the club will be determined to keep the midfield lynchpin in their side heading into the new season.

He played an important role in the midfield of Marcelo Bielsa’s side, dictating the play from deep and protecting the backline in the defensive midfield role. He played in 46 games across all competitions and in the few games he was absent, he was missed in the middle of the park.

Even if Leeds receive a big offer for Phillips, it will be interesting to see if they entertain a potential exit. Phillips is a key figure in the Leeds side and will no doubt play a crucial role in the club’s push for promotion once again as a key figure in Bielsa’s system.
