Huddersfield Town defender linked with Champions League club told he can leave

The Daily Record has claimed that Huddersfield Town defender Mathias Jorgensen has been told that he can leave the club after their relegation to the Championship, with Scottish Premiership champions Celtic reported to be keen.

Scottish Premiership side Celtic are in the market for a new centre-back or two after the departures of Dedrick Boyata and Filip Benkovic, and it has been claimed that Huddersfield Town centre0back Mathias Jorgensen is one player they could look to move for.

And, the Champions League side have been provided with a boost. The Terriers have reportedly told the Danish defender that he can leave the club this summer, as Jan Siewert looks to shape his squad ahead of the new Championship season. A number of players are expected to leave the John Smith’s Stadium this summer, and Zanka could be one of them.

The 29-year-old has been with Huddersfield since July 2017, joining the club upon their promotion from the Championship at the end of the 2016/17 season. He currently has one-year remaining on his contract at the John Smith’s Stadium, so the Terriers could be looking to sell him while they can rather than risk losing him for nothing as he enters the last year of his contract.

During his time with the Terriers, Jorgensen has played 65 times for the club across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing three assists along the way. His form in the 2017/18 campaign warranted a place in the Danish national team for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where he played three times and scored once.
