Derby County, Middlesbrough and Stoke City keen on Scottish international full-back

According to the Daily Mail (as cited by the Derby Telegraph), Championship trio Derby County, Middlesbrough and Stoke City are all eyeing up Kilmarnock right-back Stephen O’Donnell.

Football League clubs have started to kick on with executing their recruitment plans ahead of the 2019/20 season, and Derby County, Middlesbrough and Stoke City all reportedly have Kilmarnock full-back Stephen O’Donnell on their lists of transfer targets.

O’Donnell has been attracting the attention of a number of sides in recent weeks and the Championship trio are not alone in pursuing the 27-year-old this summer. Newly promoted Sheffield United have been credited with interest in the defender, as have Scottish Premiership champions Celtic. However, the latter of the two has dropped out of the chase for O’Donnell.

His contract with Kilmarnock expires at the end of next season and a host of clubs are reportedly monitoring his situation as he enters the last year of his contract. Killie are likely to be reluctant to let him leave on the cheap, so they could opt to move him on this summer to secure a fee for him while they can.

O’Donnell has been a staple in Kilmarnock’s side since joining from Luton Town back in the summer of 2017, playing 87 games across two seasons with the club. He played 43 times last season as Kilmarnock finished in 3rd place, tied on points with Aberdeen.

The right-back has also played nine times for the Scotland national team since making his debut in May 2018. He has 60 games of Football League experience, playing 60 League Two games during his time at Luton Town, but he has amassed plenty of game time in the Scottish Premiership and Championship.
