Following an indifferent first season in the Championship, Stoke City are looking to refresh their squad in an attempt to make a push for promotion back to The Premier League next season.
According to FLW, The Potters are hoping to land Huddersfield Town man Tommy Smith in a deal said to be worth between £2.5-£3m.
Tommy Smith captained Town to promotion to The Premier League two years ago but played little part in their relegation last season but is seen as an important part of the squad in West Yorkshire, however, with only one year remaining on his contract with The Terriers, they may want to cash in on the full back now rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer.
Smith played only fifteen times in the top flight last season and would be looking to be less of a bit part player this time around.
Stoke are looking to mount their own promotion push this season so signing a player with Smiths pedigree and experience may be a huge cornerstone in a squad that struggled to impose themselves last season.
Huddersfield value their man at around the £3m mark so the offer could be good for all parties.
Any deal may not be as straight forward as first thought though, as Scottish Champions Celtic are now showing interest in signing the twenty seven year old full back, a huge club with heritage that will undoubtedly be favourites to win the Scottish Premier League, as they are every season, could be a better prospect for Smith.
