Leeds United ‘target’ comments dismiss link rumours

Five days ago, Ecuadorian source El Telegrafo said that Leed United were taking their transfer chase to the South American country and were pursuing 20-year-old winger Alexander Alvarado. It was something that we wrote about here on The72.

El Telegrafo said then that the youngster, who featured for Ecuador in their historic third-place finish in the recent Under-20 World Cup, had caught the eye of Leeds United scouts. It is widely known that United are in the market for a wide player, having failed in their chase for Swansea flyer Dan James.

Other names had been mentioned before Alvarado’s name cropped up, with Wolves’ Helder Costa and Bristol City’s Callum O’Dowda topping the list. However, Leeds United were said to have asked Alvarado’s club, SD Aucus, about the availability of the 17-cap Under-20 winger with four international goals to his name.

The youngster has 51 games of experience to his name since arriving at top-tier side Aucus at the end of January 2018. His recent appearances in the Under-20 World Cup caught the eyes of many observers, including those of Leeds United it is said.

However, Alvarado’s latest comments, carried by Ecuagol, douse the fires of this supposed interest. In Ecuagol’s brief article Alvarado says of Leeds United’s interest, “It’s something that I saw in social networks” beofre adding “I have not talked to anyone, with my agent we talked but not about that topic.

As well as dismissing any notion of contact between Leeds United and himself, the Ecuadorian flyer added that if such contact was made then “the day an option comes out we are going to make it public.”
