Leeds United fans react after Totti-ly strange transfer link

First, Leeds United were linked with Italian football legend Gianluigi Buffon, what with the former Juventus stopper not extending his current deal at PSG. Leeds United fans had plenty to say about that link.

However, not content with one Italian job (which was put to bed sharpish), the Whites are being linked to another Italian football legend in Francesco Totti. These links came via a TV interview in Italy by former Italy international Marco Borriello, an interview in which he told Sky Italia: “I know that a great leader of an English team has made him a proposal to go back to playing football. Radrizzani of Leeds? I don’t know.”

Totti needs no introduction to any football fan due to the stellar career that he enjoyed with AS Roma – where he spent the entirety of his footballing career. It was a career that saw him play 618 Serie A games, scoring 250 goals, and adding 98 assists. In total he featured in 785 games for Roma, scoring 307 goals across all competitions, and providing 129 assists.

But, and it is a big one, Totti has been retired for nearly two years. Not only that, the Italian legend would be 43 in the very early stages of the next Championship season. Legend he might be, but 43 is still some age for a player to cope with the extensive demands that would be placed on him by the ultra-competitive Sky Bet Championship.

Of all the fancies that Leeds United fans could have been faced with during this transfer window, this one even out-trumps the earlier links to Gigi Buffon. Here’s how some Whites fans have reacted to the news that their club are in for another Italian legend.

But would Leeds United fans have to wait long for the wine to turn to vinegar?

A song, but one sunf more in jest than seriousness.

Definitely a belly laugh here from this Leeds United fan.

Forget Del Piero, can we get Maldini to dust down the boots that made him famous?

This Leeds United fan is pretty certain he won’t be stripping and singing.

Ryan has hit the nail on the head…and hit it hard.

Here’s another realistic view, honest and blunt from a Leeds fans.

All silliness aside, and this is indeed silliness, it’s obvious that Buffon and Totti aren’t going to be turning out for Leeds Untied next season. Strange things have happened at Elland Road, but this is Twin Peaks strange and so far off the scale that a new scale is needed.
