Sunderland to “make signings soon” with two League One players on radar

Sunderland are confident of bringing in some new players this summer to help bolster their squad.

The Black Cats have missed out on target Freddie Ladapo, who has joined fellow League One side Rotherham United from Plymouth Argyle after scoring 18 goals last season.

Jack Ross’ side remain hopeful of getting deals done over the coming months despite ongoing uncertainty over the ownership situation at the club.

Doncaster Rovers striker John Marquis remains on their radar, as per a report by the Northern Echo. He scored 26 goals in all competitions last season but Sunderland may have to face competition from Championship sides for his signature.

Marquis has been linked with the likes of QPR and Millwall recently, it will also be interesting to see if new Hull City boss Grant McCann moves for his former Donny forward.

Winder Jon Taylor is also on the Black Cats’ wanted list with him set to leave Rotherham United when his contract expires on a free transfer.

Sunderland’s owner Stewart Donald tweeted, as per the Northern Echo: “We had a squad that finished fifth and needs to collect around ten more points than last season. Any new signings are coming into a more settled environment and we probably need around six to eight players this season and we are sure to make some signings soon. Patient not complacent.”
