Huddersfield Town defender attracting interest from Champions League club

According to a report from the Daily Record, Huddersfield Town defender Mathias Jorgenson is one of a number of defensive transfer options for Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.

Huddersfield Town are looking highly likely to lose a number of players this summer, having suffered relegation from the Premier League in the 2018/19 campaign. The likes of Terence Kongolo, Aaron Mooy and Philip Billing have all been linked with moves away from the club, and a new name has joined them on the list of players being eyed up.

It has been claimed that centre-back Mathias Jorgensen – A.K.A Zanka – is an option for Scottish Premiership winners Celtic, who are in the market for a new centre-back this summer. Dedrick Boyata and Filip Benkovic have both left Celtic Park this summer and Neil Lennon is looking for new faces in the centre-back department ahead of the 2019/20 season.

The 29-year-old has been with Huddersfield since July 2017, joining the club upon their promotion from the Championship at the end of the 2016/17 season. He currently has one-year remaining on his contract at the John Smith’s Stadium, so the Terriers could look to sell him while they can rather than risk losing him for nothing as he enters the last year of his contract.

During his time with the Terriers, Jorgensen has played 65 times for the club across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing three assists along the way. His form in the 2017/18 campaign warranted a place in the Danish national team for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where he played three times and scored once.
