Derby County

Derby County boss expected to be announced as Premier League manager in the next 48 hours

Frank Lampard is expected to be announced as the new Chelsea boss within the next 48 hours according to TalkSport.

The Derby County boss has been persistently linked with taking over the reins at Stamford Bridge and it now appears that the deal for his sensational return is almost complete.

The Blues legend will return back to his old stomping ground to replace former manager Maurizio Sarri who recently left to return back to his home country and become the new boss of Juventus.

Lampard is expected to take Jody Morris with him to Chelsea to be his assistant as he is likely to return to a hero’s welcome having spent 13 years as a player at Stamford Bridge.

He was hugely impressive in his first season of management with Derby County taking to them to the Play Off Final only to be beaten by Aston Villa at Wembley.

Lampard has become something of a fans’ favourite at Pride Park and both the players and supporters will be massively disappointed to see the 41-year-old leave the club.

With Chelsea now having a transfer ban for the foreseeable they will be forced to rely on some of their talented youth players and Lampard has experience of this having nurtured Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori who was voted their Player of the Season whilst at Derby and this has alerted the Blues’ hierarchy.

Derby owner Mel Morris reportedly offered Lampard a bumper new contract in order to fend off the interest of the London club but it was always going to be impossible for him to resist the advances of Chelsea once they decided he was the man they wanted.

Undoubtedly this come as a huge blow to Derby as they look to go one better next season and aim for promotion and Lampard will leave huge shoes to fill but there is surely no better man than him to bring real team spirit back to Chelsea and its supporters.
