Norwich City, Sheffield United and Aston Villa target Burnley defender

Norwich, Sheffield United and Aston Villa are all said to be targeting Burnley defender Ben Gibson according to TeamTalk.

The former Middlesbrough man was seen as having the potential to become a top quality defender after being called up to the England senior squad in 2017 but his career has stagnated somewhat after moving to Turf Moor last summer.

He is looking to resurrect his Premier League career and it is now reported that the trio of promoted clubs as well as Turkish side Besiktas are monitoring him.

Burnley are considering allowing Gibson to go out on loan after he only made five appearances last season with injury disrupting the first half of the campaign.

He joined Burnley for around £15million but boss Sean Dyche is open to offers for the 26-year-old.

Sheffield Wednesday and former club Middlesbrough are also interested but Gibson is looking to continue playing in the Premier League as opposed to dropping down to the Championship.

Gibson still has three years left on his contract and should a permanent move away be on the cards he certainly won’t be allowed to leave on the cheap.

With Tyrone Mings and Axel Tuanzebe both having returned to their parent clubs, Aston Villa are in need of improving their defensive ranks and Gibson could provide perfect competition for that.

Norwich and Sheffield United will also be looking to add quality to their defensive line ups as they are bound to face a tough time in the Premier League following their recent promotions.

Despite his disappointing time at Burnley so far, Gibson is undoubtedly worth considering for all of the promoted sides and would add good competition to their squads.
