Leeds set to miss out on Championship playmaker

QPR playmaker Luke Freeman could be set to join Sheffield United ahead of Leeds this summer,according to a report from Football.London.

The report states that Blades’ boss Chris Wilder hopes to secure Freeman’s signature in the next 48 hours to kick off the club’s summer transfer business ahead of their Premier League return.

Freeman has been a key player for the Rs since arriving at the West London outfit in January 2017, and he made 43 Championship appearances last season as he helped the club secure second-tier safety.

Sheffield United were promoted to the Premier League in 2018/19 and Wilder wants to add quality to his ranks. Freeman has been identified as a top target.

The left-footed playmaker operates in midfield and has impressed for QPR. Last season, he stood out, scoring nine and assisting eight in a mediocre campaign for the West London outfit.

This took Freeman’s total tally to 16 goals and 25 assists for QPR. The former Stevenage, Arsenal and Bristol City player now has 18 goals and 29 assists in the Championship.

QPR will sell Freeman, who has been their best player but wants to taste top flight football at a senior level.

The one time Arsenal trainee comes within the Blades’ budget for fees and wages.

And Wilder will be delighted to get his transfer dealings started early ahead of pre-season.

The Blades boss has been dealing with internal strife at Bramall Lane where there is a court case over the ownership of the club.

United also want to buy Scotland striker Oli McBurnie from Swansea.
