Hull City are eyeing a move for Colchester United midfielder Sammie Szmodics.

The 23-year-old is a man in-demand this summer with his contract with the U’s set to expire, as per a report by the Colchester Gazette.

Szmodics, who has also been linked with Derby County and Bristol City in this transfer window, declined the chance to speak to League One side Peterborough United last week with his heart set on a move to the Championship over the coming months.

Hull are looking to get busy in the transfer window with their new boss Grant McCann eyeing up reinforcements. They are also keen on free agent defender Alan Hutton, as reported by The72 earlier today.

The Tigers have returned to pre-season training today with a thread-bare squad so are expected to bring in numerous players this summer.

Szmodics could be on his way to the KCOM Stadium and would offer the Yorkshire more attacking options for next season.

The midfielder joined his local side Colchester in 2002 and progressed up through their youth ranks. He made his first-team debut in September 2013 in a League One fixture against Bristol City.

Szmodics has since gone onto play 162 times for the Essex club, scoring 38 goals, 15 of which came last season. He also had a brief loan stint in non-league with Braintree Town in 2016.
