Crewe Alexandra want Peterborough United midfielder

Crewe Alexandra want to sign Peterborough United midfielder Callum Cooke.

The Railwaymen are keen to bolster their midfield options by landing the 22-year-old, as per a report by Cheshire Live.

Cooke, who is a former England Under-18 international, is available to leave League One side Posh for the right price this summer.

He has played for Crewe before and their boss David Artell wants to bring him back to Gresty Road.

Cooke started his career at Middlesbrough and rose up through the youth ranks at the Riverside. He never made a senior appearance for Boro despite being a regular for their youth sides.

He gained some first-team experience on loan at Crewe during the 2016/17 season where he made 18 appearances for the Cheshire, scoring four goals.

Cooke then joined Blackpool on loan for the next campaign and played 16 times for the League One side in all competitions.

He was signed by Peterborough on a permanent deal last summer on a two-year contract. However, he made just ten appearances for the Posh last season and has now been transfer-listed.

A move back to Crewe would be beneficial for Cooke and would give him an opportunity to play more regular football.

The Alex finished 12th last season in League Two and are hoping to compete in the top half of the table next term. Artell’s side have so far signed former Rochdale and Swindon Town defender Olly Lancashire and ex-MK Dons and Northampton Town winger Daniel Powell this summer.
