Oxford United targeting ex-Liverpool and Glasgow Rangers defender

Oxford United are targeting a move for Colorado Rapids defender Danny Wilson.

The League One side want to bring the 27-year-old back to the UK, as per a report by Football Scotland.

Wilson, who is a Scotland international with five caps to his name, is set to return from America this summer with the U’s a potential option for him.

The Livingston-born centre-back started his career at Rangers and rose up through the youth ranks of the Ibrox club. He went onto make 24 appearances for their first-team as a youngster before he was snapped up by Liverpool in 2011 for an initial £2 million fee.

Wilson played nine times for the Reds during his time at Anfield and also had loan spells away at Blackpool, Bristol City and Hearts.

Hearts made his move there permanent in 2013 on a free transfer and he spent two seasons with the Edinburgh side, helping them win the Scottish Championship title in 2015.

Rangers re-signed him in June 2015 and Wilson played 83 times for them before making the move to the Major League Soccer to join Colorado in January 2018 on a three-year deal.

Wilson has played alongside Tim Howard, ex-Ipswich Town defender Tommy Smith and former Wolves midfielder Jack Price at DGS Park but is set to move back from across the pond now.

Oxford, who are managed by Karl Robinson, are hopeful he links up with their squad over the coming months.
