Former Bolton Wanderers loanee linked with Hibernian move

Former Bolton Wanderers loanee Christian Doidge is believed to be a potential transfer target for Ladbrokes Premiership side Hibernian according to reports by the Daily Record.

The 26-year-old Newport-born frontman returned to parent club Forest Green Rovers in January following his loan spell with Bolton Wanderers. He was expected to complete a permanent move to the University of Bolton Stadium but the Lancashire club’s off-field woes saw the arrangement controversially collapse.

It is thought that Doidge is a target of a number of higher division clubs this summer and it has been reported that Ladbrokes Premiership club Hibernian could table a £250,000 bid for his services as they look to bolster their attacking options.

Hibs have been unsuccessful in bringing former loan star Marc McNulty back to the club so far this summer while fellow striker Florian Kamberi could leave which may starve Paul Heckingbottom’s side of attacking options.

Forest Green Rovers striker Doidge started his career in his native Wales with Barry Town before moving to Carmarthen Town. In summer 2014, the player joined Dagenham & Redbridge where he went on to score 11 goals in 55 appearances for the club.

Doidge’s career really took off when he joined current club Forest Green Rovers. The player has scored 63 goals in just two-and-a-half seasons for Rovers, helping them to a first promotion to the English Football League in 2017.

The forward has a year remaining on his current contract at The New Lawn meaning that Forest Green Rovers could opt to cash in on the player this summer rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.
