West Brom keeping tabs on 23-year-old Croatian playmaker

Portuguese news outlet Record (via Croatian website SportKlub) has claimed that Championship outfit West Brom are among the sides in the chase for Benfica’s Croatian playmaker Filip Krovinovic.

Portuguese Primera Liga side Vitoria Guimaraes were reportedly set to complete a deal to sign Filip Krovinovic from Benfica this summer, but English sides have joined the chase, potentially scuppering their chances of bringing in the 23-year-old this summer.

The report writes that newly promoted Norwich City are among the sides interested in Krovinovic this summer, as are Slaven Bilic’s West Brom. The Benfica playmaker is unlikely to remain with the Portuguese giants this summer. At the tail end of the 2017/18 season, Krovinovic suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury, which affected the start of his 2018/19 season and it looks unlikely that the will get another chance.

The Baggies are looking to bring in some new faces this summer, with new manager Slaven Bilic tasked with firing West Brom back to the Premier League after play-off heartbreak last season. He is looking to bring in a number of faces, especially if first-team players such as Jay Rodriguez and Craig Dawson make moves away from the club.

In his time at Benfica, the 23-year-old played 28 games, scoring two goals and providing one assist. He enjoyed a successful spell with Rio Ave, who he joined back in 2015 from NK Zagreb, where he made his breakthrough into senior football, coming through the Croatian side’s youth academy. It will be interesting to see if this story develops any further, with Slaven Bilic ready to kick start summer transfer business.
