Leeds United admit defeat in chase for winger target

According to Football Insider, Leeds United have admitted defeat in their pursuit of Liverpool’s Ryan Kent and will be turning their attention elsewhere.

It is a well-known fact that Leeds United are looking out for attacking width and threat this season, hence the transfer talk doing the rounds being focused on wingers. Whilst the Whites were exhilirating at times last season, one area head coach Marcelo Bielsa thinks could do with strengthening is down the flanks.

The club are looking at the possibility of brining Manchester City’s Jack Harrison back to the club on another season-long loan, the youngster having impressed Bielsa during his time at the club last season. Feelers are also said to have been extended for Wolves’ exciting wideman Helder Costa, but concrete news on that is still somewhat thin on the ground.

Liverpool’s Ryan Kent is also a name that has been linked with Leeds United over previous weeks, but that link is to stop say Football Insider. Quoting a ‘club source’, they say that the Whites “accept that they are not going to be able to entice Kent” to Elland Road as the young flyer “wants either a permanent move or a loan back to Rangers.”

During the young Liverpool starlet’s loan to the SPL club, Rangers fans got to see flashes of just why Liverpool rate him so highly. Oldham-born Kent featured in 23 SPL games for the Gers, scoring six goals and adding six assists in performances that impressed.

He also featured in six Europa League Qualifying games (one assist) for Rangers as well as three games in the Europa League proper. In total he featured in 43 games for the Scottish side, totalling six goals and nine assists.

With news that Kent is off the menu at Elland Road, fans thoughts might turn to whether the Whites can bring the exciting approach for Helder Costa over the line before pre-season kicks off in the near future.
