Blackburn Rovers to rival Newcastle United for wantaway Norwich City youngster

According to a report from Football Insider, Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers have joined the race for Norwich City’s young goalkeeper Jon McCracken.

It was reported here on The72 that Premier League outfit Newcastle United were interested in signing Norwich City youngster Jon McCracken. Now, it has been claimed by Football Insider that Championship side Blackburn Rovers and Scottish Premiership side Hibernian have joined the battle for the youngster.

McCracken will reportedly be allowed to make a move away from Carrow Road this summer, with Canaries boss Daniel Farke unlikely to give the Scot any regular game time. McCracken was third choice ‘keeper over the course of last season, thus meaning his games came in the Premier League 2. He played 13 times for the club’s second string side last season.

Now, with the ‘keeper keen to find some more game time next season, he looks set to move away. A move to Blackburn Rovers would see him compete with David Raya and Jayson Leutwiler for a place in the first-team squad.

A move to Newcastle United would probably see him spend most of his time in the club’s Under-23s. They currently have Martin Dbubravka, Karl Darlow, Rob Elliot and Freddie Woodman on the books as goalkeepers.

The 19-year-old joined Norwich from Scottish side Hamilton Academical back in 2016 and is yet to make a senior appearance for the club. Now, he could be set for a move away, but it awaits to be seen if he will remain in England or opt to return to Scotland with Hibernian.
