West Brom offer starlet new deal to fend off Barcelona transfer interest

The Express and Star has claimed that West Brom have offered a three-year deal to young star Louie Barry, amid reported transfer interest from European giants Barcelona.

We reported here on The72 last week that Catalan titans Barcelona were looking to bring West Brom’s young star Louie Barry to the club after monitoring his progression over the course of the past season.

Barry is today (Friday) turned 16 and to mark his birthday, the Baggies have moved to tie him down to a deal at the Hawthorns. The youngster has been offered a three-year deal with the Championship club, with the first year being as a scholar before being turned into a professional deal when he turns 17.

The youngster’s performances have been catching the eyes of a number of clubs across the continent, believing he has the potential to become a high-quality player in the future. Despite only just turning 16, Barry has played for West Brom’s Under-18s on 14 occasions, scoring four goals and providing three assists along the way. He has also made one brief substitute appearances for the club’s Under-23.

Barry has also been an influential player for England’s youth sides. For the Under-15s, he netted 10 goals in five games before firing the Under-16s to victory at the Val-de-Marne tournament, finishing as top scorer. Overall, he has played nine times for England’s Under-16s, scoring six goals along the way.

The Baggies have successfully brought a number of youth players through their ranks in recent years. The likes of Kyle Edwards and Sam Edwards have gone on to feature for the club’s first-team and they will be hoping Louie Barry can agree a new deal and continue to progress in the academy.
