Boost for Barnsley and Luton Town in race for Rotherham United winger

Rotherham United winger Jon Taylor has seemingly ruled out a move to League One side Sunderland after saying he wants to stay in the Championship.

The 26-year-old is set to become a free agent and is leaving the New York Stadium this summer.

He has been linked with the Black Cats as well as newly-promoted Championship duo Barnsley and Luton Town.

The former Shrewsbury Town and Peterborough United will weigh up his options over his next move.

Taylor has said, as per a report by the Shields Gazette: “Hopefully, I can stay in the Championship. I think I have more to give in that division. In the Championship with Rotherham I was always in and out of the team.

I’d do well for a few games and then I’d get taken out of the team. That wasn’t good for my confidence. I know the gaffer made a big thing about liking to rotate his wingers but, for me, it was hard because I’d see players in other positions getting a run of games. I love my football and just want to play all the time.”

Barnsley have been busy bolstering their squad ahead of their return to the second tier. Daniel Stendel’s side could now boost their attacking options by landing Taylor.

Luton, on the other hand, are yet to make a signing under new boss Graeme Jones but are keen to get busy in the transfer window over the coming weeks.
