Carlisle United receive bids for Leeds United, Derby County and Sheffield United target

Carlisle United have received bids from an unnamed Championship side for winger Liam McCarron.

The Cumbrians are expecting a battle to hold onto the 18-year-old this summer, as per a report by The News and Star.

Leeds United were linked with a £250,000 move for him earlier this week, whereas the likes of Wolves, Sheffield United and Derby County were all also credited with an interest.

McCarron impressed for Carlisle last season in League Two and made 20 appearances for them in all competitions.

Carlisle’s director of football, David Holdsworth, has confirmed moves have been made for their young star, as per the News and Star: “We have had bids from a Championship club and had conversations with a Premier League club regarding Liam. That is ongoing”

Liam is someone I recognised we had to make sure we had under contract. When we gave him a three-year contract, it was based on the ambition of making sure this club was looked after in terms of compensation, if a big club recognised what the potential of the boy could be.”

He added: “If a club does come through the door now, they’ve got to pay the amount we feel in terms of compensation and for the potential [he has] going forward, whether that’s Premier League, Championship and beyond. Things are put in place already to make sure we won’t lose out on any deal and it protects our football club.”

Could Leeds be the unnamed Championship side to have made moves for McCarron?
