Hull City make formal approach in their search for a new manager

As reported by the Yorkshire Post, Hull City have made an official approach to speak to Doncaster manager Grant McCann, with the club currently in talks with him to find out whether he will consider a move to the KCOM.

Hull have been hopeful of bringing in a new man before pre-season training starts on Monday and have now made a formal approach for McCann, who is believed to be their number one target ahead of Hibernian boss Paul Heckingbottom, who they have also made an enquiry for.

As things stand, Doncaster are remaining firm in their stance that the approach will be rejected, as they look for the 39-year-old manager to remain at the Keepmoat Stadium, where he has already made two summer signings, with left-back Reece James the latest to join from Sunderland.

But, if the Rovers boss wants to speak with Hull and is attracted by the possibility to manage in the Championship, their may not be anything the League One club can do to stop him.

McCann led Doncaster to a League One play-off semi-final in the last campaign after a sixth-place finish, where they lost to Charlton, who went on to be the eventual winners after beating Sunderland in the final.

If he was to stay, the former Peterborough United player and manager would be hopeful of improving on last season’s performance and earning promotion, which would see Doncaster competing in the Championship for the first time since 2014.

Although, as he is reportedly on the top of Hull’s list to replace Nigel Adkins, Doncaster may struggle to keep McCann, despite their determination to knock back the formal approach from The Tigers.
