Swansea City star man top of Sheffield United’s transfer wish list

Wales Online has reported that Swansea City striker Oli McBurnie is at the top of Chris Wilder’s transfer wish list at Premier League side Sheffield United this summer.

Swansea City striker Oli McBurnie enjoyed a massively successful 2018/19 season, and his strong goalscoring form has not gone unnoticed. We reported here on The72 last month that newly promoted Sheffield United had McBurnie on their list of attacking targets, but it has now emerged that the Scotsman is their number one target.

Brentford striker Neal Maupay was also linked with a move to Bramall Lane this summer, but with interest continuing to grow and reports claiming talks had been held with La Liga side Sevilla, it seems unlikely he will be joining the Blades.

McBurnie enjoyed a thoroughly successful season with Swansea on a personal level, netting 24 goals in 44 games across all competitions. His form has seen him become a fixture in the Swans’ side as well as the Scotland national side, who he has played for seven times since making his debut back in March 2018.

New Swansea manager Steve Cooper is determined to keep the striker at the Liberty Stadium for next season, saying that he hopes he remains with the club this summer but added that if they receive an offer they can’t refuse, discussions will have to be held.

McBurnie has said that he is more than happy with Swansea City, saying at the end of the season:

“The fans have been absolutely unbelievable with me since I arrived here,” McBurnie said.

“It sends shivers down my spine when I hear the fans singing my name. In one of the games they even sang ‘he’s one of our own’, which was quite funny.

“Without the fans there is no club. Professional footballers can forget how important they are, but that’s not the case here. For the love they show me, I try to repay them with goals.

“I’m really looking forward to next season, and hopefully I can score a lot more goals for them.”
