Bristol City manager Lee Johnson is known for his cheeky sense of humour and has not disappointed when speaking about the clkubs opening fixture of the 2019/20 campaign.
The Robins host Championship favourites Leeds United on the opening day and in summarising their early fixtures, Johnson was both complimentary and cheeky when speaking about the West Yorkshire club.
Speaking at Bristol’s fixture announcement via FB Live this morning, Johnson said:
“I think that is exactly what you want. A Big, big game. The first game always has a cup final mentality. Obviously, it is Leeds, a fantastic team with a fantastic manager.”
“It will be great. Ashton Gate will be absolutely packed and it’s live on Sky, so it will be that real first game cup final feeling that the lads love.”
“I’m pretty sure with the obsession in the fan-base that we have here at Bristol City that plans will be changed particularly for that.”
He joked by issuing a cheeky dig at Leeds: “Me and Jamie [McAllister] have just rented out a two-bedroom flat overlooking Leeds’ training ground. So we can get a good view on their training.”
Feisty words I’m sure you would agree?
It is all just harmless fun and appears to be the only handle any team has against The Yorkshire men following last seasons “Spygate” debacle.
Leeds fans will appreciate the acknowledgement, but they would appreciate three points and an excellent start to the season more… right?
